Algol as Lilith according to ancient Hebrew Astrology
The last time that Mars was conjunct Uranus in Taurus two years ago, it happened on the North Node. At the time, I characterized that particular series of conjunction as a shock and awe that brings necessary change where resistance has been a problem…and it happened on the North Node, so we had obvious places where the bombs dropped, and where change was required. Mars and Uranus are conjunct every two years, according to the movement of the Mars cycle, and all I can say about this one is that we are lucky we aren’t getting more than one pass and the Mars Retrograde that happens later this year doesn’t bring it back for three passes, it happens safely in the distance in Leo/Cancer. This isn’t occurring in accordance with the Nodes, so it’s not a twist of fate like the last Mars/Uranus conjunction was, but it IS happening conjunct a Fixed Star, and one that can be a harbinger of doom…this isn’t just a shift into something more aligned, like the last conjunction, rocky though it was. This is a powerful set of potential external circumstances that can arise, or internal perspective shifts that change EVERYTHING, and it’s pointing at a place within your chart where there is a need for vengeance or retribution. Algol has no “positive” connotation in any historical astrological context, it’s the demon’s head, the eye of Medusa, and according to ancient Hebrews, the Fixed Star of Lilith.
One of the most important things I can say regarding this conjunction in practical, physically oriented Mars in Taurus regard is BE CAREFUL TO AVOID ACCIDENTS, especially when it comes to motor vehicles, sharp things, electrical, and farm or lawn and gardening equipment. I will outline the Dark Feminine nature of this conjunction for the Divine Dark Feminine Tier, but here for everyone I will say that women need to be careful and cautious of men they do not know, and don’t take any chances that leave you vulnerable to assault. Now that this is clearly and concisely made an imperative, let’s delve into the intensity of this chart.
Mars conjunct Uranus at 26’19”
Precisely where this conjunction will impact YOU depends entirely upon its context in your natal chart. This is a long term transit that will continue to hold sway, especially because it involves a Fixed Star, which is always at this place in your chart in transit. There is always a subtle and underlying influence if you have this point in any way in tight aspect within one degree of orb in your chart, especially a conjunction or opposition, but if that’s the case, you will feel the urge for rebellion and the demand for CHANGE acutely. Pay attention to the house this lies in for you, and think about anything that happened to change your path the last time this conjunction came around at 16 degrees of Taurus on August 1, 2022. Did you harken unto the signs and the push into a new and different direction according to the North Node in Taurus that was trying to establish greater stability, or was there resistance?
Mars in Taurus is a Mars in detriment, and it’s not inclined to budge, not even when directly confronted, and not even an inch. There is nothing like the shock and awe of Uranus to wake us up enough to realize that change is needed, especially where we are most resistant to it! Breaking patterns of stagnation can be difficult, but this conjunction is here to do exactly that. The more resistant we are, the more dramatic it will have to be to wake us up, and that’s the role of Uranus. Uranus in Taurus shakes the foundation and gives us what is needed to operate more efficiently, conserve more energy, and work smarter so we can work harder, the stability needed comes after we take what we’ve already built and allow Mars in Taurus to see what works and to ADMIT what does not work, a challenge for this Fixed Earth Mars. This conjunction can be extremely confrontational, and heavily volatile if it NEEDS to be. Mars in Taurus is not always open to change, and Uranus forces the issue. Unexpected issues may arise, accidents may happen, just like Pluto transits, the more we deny the louder these influences operate in order to provoke what they need to provoke. Anxiety may arise, and if it does, it’s something to examine more closely, the WHY and the circumstances surrounding it, what can be done differently? Uranus calls us to think outside the box and for Mars in Taurus, that may feel destabilizing and cause tension or even fear…this highly reactionary conjunction is often the point in the Mars cycle where we can no longer fight, no longer escape, neither fight nor flight is an option, and we are forced to choose something completely different.
This is the final conjunction during this period of Uranus in Taurus, and the next time these two meet, it will be in early degrees of Gemini, and the nature of this every other year influence will shift. For now, in Taurus, these are issues of the body and the material, of confronting final insecurities or issues we’ve ignored or refused to work through that may have been previously sparked to consciousness during the transit of the Nodes through Taurus/Scorpio from the end of 2021 through July of 2023. November 19 of 2021 was a Lunar Eclipse at 27 Taurus, and that is one point that can be closely examined NOW, in accordance with this conjunction…whatever journey ended or began there may now be at a point of pivot, and any remaining patterns that are echoes of that time must now be confronted once and for all, here with Mars/Uranus at the end of the sign bringing not only confrontation, but options for solutions we hadn’t previously been open to, or showing us the consequences of previous choices and decisions. This is what I said at that time about Algol’s influence in that Eclipse, for those who remember back when I did written reports for them,
“I don’t often talk about Fixed Stars in my daily posts, but they are always up there, a powerful influence if you happen to have any of them conjunct a natal planet. Here at 27 Taurus, this Eclipse is conjunct Fixed Star Algol, part of Medusa’s Head in the Perseus Constellation. In the myth, she has been slain and he is carrying her severed head. She wasn’t the monster in the tale though painted that way, everything she did was a response to being raped by Poseidon. This Fixed Star conjunct this Eclipse brings a sense of retribution to this period of time. This can be a violent influence, and it’s important to walk with trepidation and be wary right now. There may be a sense of futility associated with this Eclipse, that we’ve tried every avenue, and still come up with no real recourse. That’s where Algol spins us toward the end of a long and arduous journey. Remember, though, that this Fixed Star is considered a dark and foreboding influence, we aren’t so much slaying the demon as we are bound to it here. This influence will make us confront our own darkness, it may bring forth past emotional trauma, especially any associated with abuse or sexual assault. Remember, this is here to trigger us toward healing, and acceptance in order to take our power back. Algol is also associated with electricity, so be careful when dealing with any electrical issues, or if you are in any strong lightning storms.”
This Mars/Uranus conjunction may bring a sudden and unanticipated END to that which still haunts from that particular Eclipse, or unanticipated vengeance and retribution for wrongs suffered then. If once upon a time we were bound to the demon as I said, this confrontational Mars/Uranus conjunction makes the demon no longer an enemy, but a place of necessary rebellion and empowerment, of taking back what has been taken, or serving our own sense of what may be justice or rightful claim to sovereignty. What was wronged then can be avenged now, in ways that drop unavoidable and unexpected bombs. Uranus also at times brings opportunities, the nature of change is not “positive” nor “negative” by inherent status of Uranus, change is change and this is MARS driven here, Mars is a malefic influence that brings war, the nature of our aggressive drive in this particular sign is in detriment, so perhaps these battles have a sudden and almost disappointing ending, a feeling of “that’s all? After everything, that’s just IT and it’s OVER?” Where we anticipate a battle there may be none, or a culmination that is far more quiet than what we would have anticipated may be difficult to adjust to. Remember, Uranus works in ways that defy expectation, so whatever this brings or doesn’t bring, we work with it in new and different ways to harness this potentially difficult conjunction. Uranus isn’t intuitive, it’s counterintuitive and the planet of spin, and it may make Mars in Taurus extremely uncomfortable, and that’s where we need to do something different than what we’ve been doing. This conjunction is here to reduce our comfort zone to rubble, and we may lose our heads in the process.
Sun at 23 Cancer sextile Mars/Uranus
Mars/Uranus at 26 Taurus sextile Neptune at 29 Pisces
This particularly volatile Mars/Uranus conjunction happens in a sextile from sensitive Cancer Sun on one side, with a sextile to Neptune, planet of dreams and intuition, on the other side in Pisces. Intuition is heightened here, but we may not heed it readily with the rebellion instinct so powerful in Mars/Uranus in Taurus. If the greater goal is toward STABILITY in Taurus after this necessary change, things need to be shaken up regarding home/roots in Cancer, and we are going to have to begin with the subconscious in Neptune. These changes go far beyond just the surface and the external, and they call for new and different methods of perception, of intuition, of divination. What we’re accustomed to no longer will suffice, the comfort of home is disrupted and disturbed with necessary changes and shifts, and dreams are not a solace and a place of tranquility, but are a space of messages that may be lost or unheeded, or misunderstood. Neptune is at the final degree of Pisces, where poignant closure is desperately needed, and Cancer Sun emotional undertow may make the process of change extremely difficult, as Cancer attaches deeply to the past. Mars/Uranus will make clear what is needed now is no longer what was needed in the past, and there is a danger of taking things too personally that comes with this conjunction. Unmet needs will be a space of intense provocation, and there are always hidden layers to the needs of Cancer Sun, it is never obvious on the surface, so the explosions may require peeling back multiple layers to discern how to sensitively navigate changes in a way that nurtures and protects the core of what we truly value here.
Moon at 11 Scorpio quincunx Jupiter at 11 Gemini
There are TWO exact quincunx issues that have difficulty and no obvious resolution under this Mars/Uranus conjunction, and that is important. Scorpio Moon, the psychic detective, is on the wrong track with Jupiter in Gemini giving too many possibilities, too many options to narrow, and Scorpio Moon may feel powerfully overwhelmed or overstimulated. The quiet that we need to discern, and to problem solve, and to deeply analyze these events or issues or circumstances on a PERSONAL level is prevented by the environment somehow having too much thought, too much debate, too much noise, too many choices to narrow and this can cause further anxiety, especially when we consider that this Moon is in a Mars ruled sign and MARS in the conjunction is in the opposing sign of its own detriment, Scorpio Moon may feel lost in the clamor of the more demanding aspects involved, leaving Mars without guidance, at the whim and subject to whatever provocative circumstances arise. This is an aspect of overthinking and overanalyzing, of crossed signals and missed intuition. There is a danger of too many spiritual options, or thinking we know more than we do under this conjunction, so be careful with spiritual methods where the knowledge is read or absorbed rather than lived and experienced. This quincunx can be one that comes back to bite us if we are missing details or nuance that matters.
Mercury at 19 Leo quincunx Saturn at 19 Pisces
Mercury, planet of thought and communication, also has a quincunx tension to Saturn, planet of structure and discipline, in Pisces, a Fire/Water situation where what Mercury in Leo thinks is right and pursues is not supported by the changes in belief or spiritual needs of Saturn in Pisces, so what we’ve been pouring forth energy toward so passionately doesn’t make waves for Saturn, it simply turns to wasted steam. Where we feel like time or energy has been wasted, where no matter how much we CARE, and care deeply, we cannot impact or affect the changes we seek, it’s time to STOP. It’s time to completely reset from the ground up, and Mars/Uranus can show us how to do just that, bringing new solutions to what wasn’t working as we dig our way out of the rubble in the aftermath. I spoke on that at the last Mars/Uranus conjunction, how the nature of the meeting of these two isn’t just about the conjunction and what it brings, but how we need to take it forward into the aftermath, and the rebuild process. Mercury quincunx Saturn tells us wherever we feel like we’re shouting into the void is a place to STOP and turn our efforts elsewhere, that the passion of Mercury in Leo can be fully expressed and create change instead of meeting Saturn fueled obstacles and restrictions. If we let Mars/Uranus obliterate things the way that it should, we can rebuild something with greater potential for success than what we were previously spinning toward. Something that is a better expression of Mercury in Leo’s passion, and a more spiritually fulfilling higher calling of Saturn in Pisces, which recently Stationed Retrograde and may have things to rethink.
Venus at 4 Leo opposite Pluto at 1 Aquarius separating
This is a separating opposition that does not tie directly into the Mars/Uranus conjunction itself, but it is worth noting that Mars/Uranus may bring explosive resolution or culmination to any relationship or financial issues that have recently been experienced, and there is no predicting which way Uranus will spin, ever. It can bring sudden challenges or sudden opportunities, so if you have had major relationship upheaval, try to think and operate in terms of we don’t know what to expect, and that’s ok. If you have been in a volatile or violent or abusive situation, take measures to avoid danger as much as you can during this time, and have a safe place and a safe person who can intervene if possible. If you need help, text me (517) 607-9670 and I will help you find it in your area so you do not have search history in your devices and can text or call you to relay it outside of your search history.
I’ve covered the most important parts of this conjunction, but I cannot convey strongly enough that it’s one that is mostly dictated by inner rebellion, and outside force, and this is a feedback loop of provocation. The way to harness it, ESPECIALLY if it is dragging up things from the November 19, 2021 Eclipse that happened here for you, is to take a hard look at what has been built since then, and where certain situations have changed but patterns have remained the same, it’s time to break the stagnation. Whatever is repeating is something that can be changed from within, something that HAS to change, even if it impacts the stability of home/family, and according to whatever area of the chart this impacts for you. Uranus operates in a generational context, and the rebellion may be furious during this time, and come from long-term resentments that aren’t even forged in the current context, they predate that Eclipse and we’ve been carrying them around the entire time unnecessarily. This conjunction will do whatever it takes to take the foundation back down to where it needs to be for us to rebuild, and the more we resist, the harder it pushes, that’s the way of Uranus. We don’t get another chance in this sign, it’s in Gemini next time.
Divine Dark Feminine Tier
Mars/Uranus at 26 Taurus opposite Asteroid Lilith at 25 Scorpio
Black Moon Lilith at 29 Virgo opposite Neptune at 29 Pisces
Algol as Lilith according to ancient Hebrew Astrology
Algol as Lilith according to ancient Hebrew Astrology
The Hebrew perspective of Lilith wasn’t pretty. The Fixed Star that we now most commonly call Algol has connections with Medusa, but predating that was the ancient Hebrew demonization of Lilith, and the nature of this star is one that when considered in the context of Lilith astrology, is something that I have determined to symbolize the mischaracterization and demonization of Lilith herself, and it’s how we are made victims. Medusa mythologically entails its own interpretation, and I’m focusing here on the Lilith side of the story. It’s rarely understood, even by those who are otherwise well-read on Lilith, that the old “Lilith wanted to be on top and so she refused to submit to her husband and got cast out” line FIRST comes to our attention from the Alphabet of Ben Sira, a bit of midrash pinned down from somewhere within the 8th to 10th centuries, that is otherwise deemed to be SATIRE. That’s right, “Lilith wanted to be on top, this is all about sex sex sex” came directly from a patriarchal satire in a patriarchal culture. Midrash is simply collected religious writings by rabbis that are considered to have spiritual merit, it’s not the holy text, it’s old dudes sitting around and talking about the holy text. This particular GEM, the Alphabet of Ben Sira, also includes the story of the author being the son and grandson of the prophet Jeremiah, because his grandfather the prophet ejaculated in water in which his own daughter bathed, thereby impregnating the daughter with the son/grandson of the prophet. And we are supposed to believe this “Alphabet of Ben Sira” about LILITH when the rest of it is nothing but dirty old rabbis sitting around being dirty old perverts. Ok, sure. So, when we DISMISS this non-historical and non-mythological patriarchal BULLSHIT that serves only to HYPERSEXUALIZE an otherwise powerful and prominent female influence within the mythology, that can leave us confused as to the origins.
Given that mischaracterization and demonization is part of the context of Lilith, it shouldn’t be surprising, this is just one more way in which we see how this operates and how these things happen, especially over time as people never bother to question where what they know or think they know even comes from. What is known about the origins of Lilith is that Lilith is mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh, as the handmaiden of Inanna, when we are outside of Sumeria and see her traces within Hebrew culture as this Fixed Star, called Algol, the eye of the Demon, the Demon being LILITH. Rosh hi Sitan, or Head of Satan was the name of this star, while Lilith translates to “night monster” or “night creature.” Lilith is mentioned in the book of Isaiah, and also traces of her are found in incantations warding against her stealing of children in the 7/8th centuries in Hebrew/Canaanite. We know that it takes a powerful female figure to catch enough attention so as to be demonized, sexualized, and made into something she’s not, so though it’s difficult to actually find glimpses of this enigmatic figure across time, we see her across time and culture, and subjected to stories that include abuse, trauma, mischaracterization, defamation, and demonization. Well, it’s hard to “demonize” that which is already gloriously and triumphantly a demon. Lilith in astrology as Algol is a symbol of the culture that defined her this way, ever present and ever lying in wait to wreak havoc with her presence, a female figure so powerful in her execution and wielding of power that they had to take it the way the patriarchy does best…reducing her to sexual function and worth/unworthiness based on her willingness to perform for them or submit to them. If ever there were a symbol of not giving them anything they desire, it’s Lilith.
Fixed Stars have been observed astrologically since time immemorial, and all cultures agree on Algol being a cataclysmic space of violence, death, and in more than one culture, powerful stories of the abused/raped/marganilized no longer tolerating the circumstances to which they have been subjected, and vehemently, with volatile and dangerous methods, setting the record straight. The more modern interpretation of Medusa in regard to this Fixed Star is the newest mythology on it, and whether Lilith or Medusa calls more powerfully to you in the symbolism, there are enough parallels to be striking and this conjunction is best considered by whichever allegory calls most deeply to you from the shadows where it seethes, and where the danger is best used to your own advantage. Algol as the Demon’s Head amplifies, it takes what’s been lurking in the dark underneath the fear and the rage and makes it REAL, it brings confrontation to that which is inevitable, and it can manifest with absolute volatility. There is no love and lighting nor sugar coating the influence of this Fixed Star, it’s one that does what it does, and when things blow up, what matters is how we REACT. If we’ve been suppressing and repressing, we may just lose our heads metaphorically, and unleash the necessary and justified rage we feel as victims, or, if we are the ones taking bitter blades of dangerously sharp swords, we can take cues here from Lilith or Medusa, and take responsibility ONLY for what is OURS in the situation, our OWN choices and not what we were forced to do in response, or what happened as a result of what we had to do when circumstances were what they were, or are. Again, much of this may harken back to things that began or were inspired by the Lunar Eclipse at this degree, the first on the Taurus/Scorpio axis in that Series, on November 19, 2021. That was a turning point that is now called to a final battle or a final resolution, and there is no way to escape the undeniable truth that underlies it. One way or the other, darkness meets darkness in the space of the Demon, and what we were bound to before now becomes precisely what we need to find the way out, or past…to rebel.
What is most prominently triggered in the Lilith associations to this Fixed Star comes with Mars, the “male” principle, and Uranus, getting a shock and awe realization straight from the Demon herself…and there may be an extremely disruptive period of male dominance projected at female independence, and the rage that ensues can be intense. Whether demands are made upon space, time, body, resources, value…the uprising in response can be, and I don’t use this word lightly, catastrophic.
Mars/Uranus at 26 Taurus opposite Asteroid Lilith at 25 Scorpio
Mars/Uranus on Algol also makes an exact opposition to Asteroid Lilith, the part of the Lilith story where Lilith takes solace in refuge of isolation in the desert, in Scorpio, where we move in secret and lie in wait for the perfect time to strike. The echoes of this opposition may continue to reverberate underneath the surface, and even if it doesn’t become OUTWARDLY explosive, underneath it is profoundly transformational, and whatever patterns of stagnation we need to break entail a powerful shedding of skin. That which used to control us, formative experiences by which perhaps we’ve defined not only self but our own potentials, no longer has power here, and we either overcome it and become empowered, or perhaps we’re now facing a “bigger bad” that demands what we once thought was the true darkness to be put on pause. This is a space where we now have more clarity, and may not know exactly what to DO with it yet, Scorpio Lilith orchestrates with psychological precision, carefully crafting and only lashing out when it’s advantageous, so this layer of aspect under the Mars/Uranus conjunction means that it may take time to see the results, and it may not be so easily discernible. There is also a powerful undercurrent of secrets being brought to light in this time, especially unexpected ones that shift our perspective in ways we didn’t imagine. The hidden is not just brought to light, it’s written in blood and served with sharpened fangs we didn’t see coming. There is power in waiting to strike, and there is power in secrecy under this opposition. Things may spiral out of hand faster than we anticipate, and there is nothing wrong with asserting boundaries, and allowing Lilith in Scorpio silence and introspection to seethe and to plan. The setting of boundaries may be sharp and harsh and unanticipated, and be the underlying cause of explosions for Mars/Uranus on Algol in the first place. If you need to set them, hold them as sacred and don’t let anyone cross them.
Black Moon Lilith at 29 Virgo opposite Neptune at 29 Pisces
This powerful conjunction happens under a Scorpio Moon, and as I outlined for all Tiers, it’s one of Moon quincunx Jupiter in Gemini, overthinking and overstimulating. We’ve already experienced this opposition repeatedly, where Black Moon Lilith, Lunar Apogee and place of hidden guilt and shame that is imposed upon us as a result of the mistreatment and mischaracterization of others, is opposite Neptune, where delusion may cloud judgment and this is an aspect of hidden fears, all consuming, driving erratic and anxious behavior. This is the overachiever countered with feelings of failure that may not even be real, but that drive insecurity. This is the perfectionist met with our own excessive and unrealistic expectations, and the fantasy and illusion of what our worst fears of failure look like are all too prominent. This is an aspect of not even starting because we don’t know where to start, or the criticism and opinions of others coloring perception of our own potential. As Black Moon Lilith is a point of Moon’s orbit, we have to look to the quincunx Moon is in with Jupiter, this influence is one that Jupiter is in a sign that squares Black Moon Lilith in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces toward the end of the transit tomorrow, and this tension makes Jupiter in Gemini more of a pressure point. Peer pressure or the pressure to succeed intellectually or creatively may be strong, but the important thing to remember for highly competitive Black Moon Lilith in Virgo is that our worst critic and our own most imposing competitor is SELF.
My culminating thoughts on this complex conjunction of shock and awe on Algol, where we are met with FORCE to move the immovable of Mars in Taurus with so much heavy intensity on the other side of the axis in Scorpio…empowerment is danger. The control issues that may be provoked are intense, but so is the refusal to succumb, the confrontational darkness within the Eye of the Demon is a meeting of the inevitable. These things are always under the surface, where we can comfortably either deny or hide them…this provocative celestial event no longer allows us to unsee the cracks in the foundation, because it’s now ready to be blown to bits, and what we rebuild comes through the end of the transit of Uranus through Taurus. We’ve got one year left, then a dip back in Retrograde, but Uranus will dance back and forth across this degree and Fixed Star several more times in its duration here in this space of the Zodiac. Mars is forced now for a reckoning, one we’ve avoided, and one that will work in shocking ways. However the Lilith aspects align within your chart may become intense, and if that’s the case, look first to Asteroid Lilith and the setting of necessary boundaries.
