Sedna in Gemini 2023 to 2066: Exploring the Underworld of Information and Communication
This is the first change of sign for Sedna, planet of consciousness and awareness through suffering, since its discovery in 2003, and this is an interesting time to experience and observe through the lens of transits and feeling the underlying shift in the collective. Sedna, as a dwarf planet far past the reaches of Pluto, takes over 11,000 years to make just ONE trip through the entire Zodiac, and the 40 years that this Underworld dwarf planet will spend in Gemini are at a time where she is relatively close to Earth in orbit, strengthening in influence as she comes closer to her CLOSEST point, which will be in Cancer during 2075 and 2076. This is the first time we have a change of sign for astrologers to actually observe and discuss since Sedna’s discovery, so this is an exciting ingress that will be a focal point for the next couple of years as we pay attention, and examine the patterns that begin to unfold. This is the evolution of astrology in a modern context happening right before our eyes, and it’s an exciting place to be! Between Sedna entering Gemini and Haumea entering Scorpio, we have the making of profound shifts to the collective, and if either one is prominent in your chart, you’ll get to feel the shift and the changes on a personal level as well because it’s influence in transit will be stronger upon you than it is other people. For either of these to have any intense relevance, they must be within an orb of about half a degree, so aspects to be considered must be almost EXACT. These are dwarf planets that move very very slowly because they are at such a distance from us, so it’s important to remember that a degree or two can be YEARS away from holding influence and it’s important to use very tight orbs with these far reaching and collective influences.
Sedna has been in Taurus, the sign of the material and the body, shifting consciousness surrounding what we value and how we perceive and care for the body since the 1960’s, and we can certainly see that these two areas have undergone several collective shifts during the time that Sedna was in this sign. Our understanding of the body has deepened through study, through science, and through changes in how we care for it. The shift to processed food in the 70’s and 80’s, feeding the collective with increasingly cheaper means of production to the tune of much higher profit, created a metabolic shift that we haven’t recovered from and food is no longer just “food” but laden with chemicals and preservatives that our ancestors didn’t consume…and it shows in the health problems and diseases and rampant autoimmune conditions of the collective. The health care systems that we rely upon do not resolve these issues, they can’t…but the places where food regulation is required to uphold higher standards, people are healthier and have less systemic problems due to what they eat. We are coming out of Sedna in Taurus heavier, slower, and exerting far more effort in order to stay healthy than previous generations had to, and a big part of that is the massive collective shifts that Sedna inspired. Values and what we value have been drastically reimagined…we often see the 1980’s as the pinnacle of excess and consumer culture, but has it gotten any better? When we consider Sedna’s interactions with Pluto, we can see the pattern dredging the bottom the past few years as these two were trine with Pluto in Capricorn, revealing the instability of material facade and the control exerted with Pluto representing the Father of the Underworld, an influence similar to the father by whom Sedna was forsaken, abandoned, and left for dead until she rose to become the Queen of an Underworld of her very own creation. Sedna perseveres, Sedna rises above, to the surface, ultimately an influence of empowerment, but it does not come easily. It comes through profound feelings of suffering, of loss, of grief, of disempowerment at the hands of those we should be able to trust the most.
Sedna is now blasting forward into Gemini, the sign of learning, information, and communication…and also twins and siblings. Gemini is an energy that can be chaotic and seeks out new and different experiences, so get ready for the social dynamic to change, and the way that we communicate to be redefined. I am already seeing a lot of chatter conflating Sedna moving into Gemini with the things that will be influenced by Pluto in Aquarius, so I want to be clear here that it’s Aquarius that rules technology, which may be having an impact on the Sedna shift into this place where communication and information will be highlighted, but we cannot specifically pinpoint that Sedna is going to entail AI and implants for communication and things of that nature. To jump to those assumptions is baseless. Pluto still has to unearth the truth about technology and AI, and it is my opinion that Pluto is going to reveal it’s not as far along as it’s purported to be, and it’s really nowhere near as big of a deal as people think that it is…the issues are in people, technology only does what people tell it to do and the collective understanding of technology is actually quite poor. When we think about Sedna moving into Gemini, it’s important to understand that this shifts the need for communication into hyperdrive and it demands that we intuit and learn from the experiences of others. Gemini energy is extremely comfortable with debate, and it’s Mutable Air nature can change and shift in accordance with integrating new information, so this spins the collective into a place with more interested and open minds…perhaps this will be what we need to become less judgmental and more live and let live when it comes to the lives of others. Gemini isn’t bothered by what other people do, but Taurus can be profoundly and easily upset by things that don’t align with our own personal values. Gemini has no give a care here, and this could be an interesting shift when we consider the generally divisive and judgmental nature of social media. The underlying technology and control issues surrounding that topic of social commentary will be changed by Pluto, but how we USE social media will be influenced strongly by Sedna hitting hyperdrive here in this sign that has a full range of verbal and written expression without restraint, but also one that comes with a need to understand both sides and that is open to shifting our perspective more easily.
When we consider the Underworld nature of Sedna, we need to understand that these shifts come at the behest of revealing the darkness surrounding these issues, and it’s not always pretty…and these are far reaching energies that take YEARS to unfold. So, how do we notice these shifts in the collective? We may see hits here at ingress, and at times of Station, but these things take many years to wade through…Sedna is an influence of ages, not of generations. We are forced to confront the dark side of the things we experience with Sedna, and it often comes through some sort of disempowerment. In Gemini, this revolves around communication and information, and these shifts may come with some sort of attempt to exert control over them…likely from people who feel threatened by open minds, or groups who are resistant to the changes that Pluto in Aquarius is set to inspire. People who resist a more egalitarian approach of equality are going to double down in their effort to spin propaganda and control the flow of information, so fact checking will be even more imperative than it’s ever been with Sedna in Gemini. We are only as knowledgeable as what we’ve learned and what we’ve experienced, and we are being encouraged here to be far more open to it…but as always, Sedna comes with something lurking that we don’t anticipate that’s going to throw us overboard and we sink to the bottom.
Things that will be of intense importance with Sedna in Gemini: creativity especially in regard to the written word, language and how it shapes culture through the lens of how we communicate, getting to the bottom of media consumption and taking a hard look at where our information comes from, being able to trust the information that we receive, the means and ways by which we receive and give communication, study of human learning and individualized instruction and methods of teaching, how we are ALLOWED to use our experience…will college degrees matter in 30 years? Perhaps they will only be worth the paper that they are written on rather than the hundreds of thousands of dollars of crippling and unnecessary debt to get them that Sedna in Taurus imposed while they don’t actually afford jobs or opportunities for the time invested. These are all subjects and concepts that I expect to be of importance during Sedna in Gemini, and we will learn as we go, observing things through the lens of transit and internalizing the experience as it unfolds.
Sedna will be back in Taurus thanks to a Retrograde one more time, from November 23 2023 to April 26 2024, and in that time we will wrap up any old business that entails issues of the body and how we perceive it, treat it, or use it and the material and how we pursue it, hoard it, or use it for good or ill. Until that time, I would encourage you to look at your patterns of communication now, and take a look at anywhere you could perhaps be more open to experience or open minded, and to examine learning and the role that it plays in your life. We’re all going to be curious and ready to embark upon feeding our brains new things with this energy shifting into place, so it’s important to think about the process now so we can perhaps make it a bit less chaotic over the coming weeks. If you’ve been thinking about going back to school or have been obsessed with learning about something totally new and different, Sedna in Gemini can be very helpful in taking these ideas and making them reality, and giving something REAL and meaningful to do with them.
